What is Gumsaba?

Gumsaba was formed to build, support and sustain a vibrant and healthy community through outdoor sport and fitness. Gumsaba is a Washoe Native American word denoting the biggest festival of the year, the harvest festival, and translates literally to “big time!”. At Gumsaba Outdoor boot camp we when we go, we go BIGTIME!

We provide comprehensive outdoor fitness boot camp programs for women, men and teens. Our “green exercise” programs include: Womens-Only Boot Camp, Mens-Only Boot Camp, Teen Summer Boot Camp, as well as sport and event specific training. We pride ourselves on providing a variety of cross-training to build well rounded physical and mental health. Our goal is to help people in our community find the joy in consistent exercise in the great outdoors, so it becomes a part of their lives... for life!

Scientific studies show that adults and teens alike benefit greatly from taking “recess” outdoors.

"Researchers in England and Sweden have found that joggers who exercise in a natural green setting with trees, foliage and landscape views feel more restored, and less anxious, angry and depressed than people who burn the same amount of calories in gyms or other build settings. Research is continuing into what is called green exercise." - Excerpt from Why the Young (and the rest of us) Need Nature, Richard Louv’s “Last Child In the Woods."
